Mountains to Sea Cycle trail Accommodation

As part of your package, we book your accommodation during your Mountains to Sea Cycle trail journey.  Our packages include accommodation for the night(s) in between riding days, and have options for extra accommodation before and/or after you ride.

The accommodations vary a great deal throughout the programme. These may include hostel style accommodation, basic B&Bs and unique cottages, all show casing the beautiful area they are located in.   Accommodations may be rustic and a private bathroom is seldom available. Sometimes located in a remote area, these accommodations may be shared with other travellers. 

The  accommodation is Twin share / Double, it is comfortable and will meet all of your basic needs (twin share may be unavailable during peak times).
 
​Single supplement may be available at an extra cost. Please specify group configuration and specific needs when booking.  Below is a list of providers we use.

All properties used by the Mountain Bike Station have the facilities to self cater your own meals, all bookings include bedding and a towel. 

Station Lodge - Chalets


Each self-serviced chalet consists of 2 spacious bedrooms, sleeping up to 5 guests (3 beds). The chalet offers an open plan living area, large kitchen, bathroom, outdoor patio, washing machine, general appliances and private off street parking. 
Each chalet has its own private spa pool, offering views of Mt Ruapehu.

Station Lodge - Hostel


The lodge offers you a choice of hostel style rooms; double rooms or small dorms with the choice of 4 or 6 person rooms.

​The clean and comfortable rooms are all located on a single level building with toilet and shower facilities, communal kitchen, dining and lounge area centrally located.

Ruatiti Backpackers


This idyllic setting offers rustic style bungalows with shared  facilities  on a working farm. 

They offer two cabins. One sleeps eight, the other sleeps four. Both fitted out with bunk beds. The separate toilet block has shared showers, toilets. The communal kitchen offers basic kitchen facilities and BBQ area.

Ruatiti Hunting Lodge


This private hunting lodge has 3 spacious bedrooms with en-suites as well as 6 king single bunk beds in a beautiful large room. Sleeping 12 guests comfortably in total.
It is fully self-contained, has a brand new modern kitchen and dining area, 5 new bathrooms, washhouse, and large lounge.

Mellonsfolly Ranch -
​ Old Western Town


At the Old Western Town you step back in time and experience the charm of the Old West.
Spend the night in this brilliantly recreated frontier town and immerse yourself in a world of cowboys, gun slinging and bank robbery!


The premium rooms are luxurious, elegantly furnished in Victorian style. The standard rooms are Plains Indian/Rustic western themed.  All rooms are named after an historic figure of the Old West.

The Bridge To Nowhere Lodge


Accessible only by boat (jet boat or canoe), foot or helicopter, this is one of the most isolated lodges in the North Island.
Located deep in the Whanganui National Park wilderness region, it is  the only accommodation of its kind in the area.

​Basic lodge style accommodation with shared facilities and communal dining.  This property will be shared with other guests.   This is an off the grid property, and power is supplied by generator.

Pipiriki Campground


Pipiriki Campground is a popular, back-to-basics adventure camp set in spacious grounds with native trees and close to the Whanganui River.

Bunk Room (sleeps 6) includes: fitted sheets and pillow cases. Bunk room is on solar powered lighting ONLY and is very basic. The shared campers kitchen, lounge and dining is open planned and comfortable. Facilities include fridge, oven and stove, microwave, toaster, boiling jug and hot & cold running water. Cooking and essential utensils are available to hire for a small fee.

Jerusalem convent


Tranquil setting among beautiful native bush and next to the Whanganui river.  Stay in what is known as
The sister's lodge, with basic facilities, communal style dorm room, with shared facilities.

Kohu Cottage


A snug, cosy cottage along the Whanganui River Road,
Kohu Cottage is a 1 bedroom weatherboard cottage, which is 100 years old. 

​Sleeps 4 people (1 double bed, plus single bed in one room and a fold out sofa bed in the lounge area) 
Linen supplied. 
​
There is a basic kitchen and a cosy fire place.

Rivertime Lodge


Rivertime Lodge is a two bedroom private cottage set on the banks of the Whanganui River. The perfect accommodation choice for couples, families or small groups.
Rivertime Lodge is fully self contained, with a well equipped kitchen, comfortable open plan lounge and dining area, two bedrooms (Queen Bed in main bedroom, and three singles beds in the other) and bathroom.

The Flying Fox Lodge


Accessible only by cable car this unique retreat is a remote, peaceful hideaway in the forest. An eclectic collection of hand built cottages overlooking the river with stunning views of the stars unaffected by the lights of the city.  

The Flying Fox offers a range of unique accommodation options. With everything from camping and glamping to comfortable cottages there is sure to be something to suit.
